One Word Goals

At the start of the new year, Pastor David challenged each member of the staff team to come up with one word to focus on. Goals are good, but sometimes they can be too narrow in focus: lose 10 pounds, run a marathon, stop watching Netflix, etc. Other times, they can be so lofty that most people quit by the end of January: writing a book, climbing Mount Everest, learning every language, etc.

That is not to say that making goals for the new year is a wasted endeavor. However when we focus on one word for the year, we are able to begin thinking about the larger themes in our lives. It might be the word “fitness”, and thus the goals of running a marathon or hiking Mount Everest are but facets of the larger theme of “fitness”. In a similar fashion, when it comes to our relationship with God, thinking in these thematic terms can often be more fruitful than focusing on a reading plan for the Bible.

Over the course of the next few weeks, you will hear from each staff member about a specific word God has placed on our hearts to pursue this coming year. In such a way we hope to inspire everybody at Arapaho Road Baptist Church to come up with words of their own.
