Pastor David’s ‘Sermon on the Mount’ series has really hit home for me on so many levels. One of the phrases from Jesus’ sermon which continues to shimmer is from Matthew 5:14-16 which says “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.“
This passage is a great word of motivation to me and my family as we serve the Equinox on the Park residents as their CARES Team. We want to be doers of the Word, not hearers only, especially as do everyday life in the apartment community. We plan and execute three events per month for our neighbors to connect and build a sense of community. We also make visits each month to new residents as well as those whose leases are coming up for renewal. With every connection we make, every meal we serve, every home visit…we want to let the light shine before those we are serving, so that they may see our good works and give glory to our Father in heaven.
One of the things I find important to remember is that Jesus is the Light of the world. He is the source of all light. He is the One who makes it possible for us to let our little lights shine, because He shines so brightly in and through us. It’s Christ in us, the hope of glory…and the Light which illuminates our lights.
