The Ethnologue catalogue of world languages currently lists 6909 living languages. About 6% of them have more than a million speakers each, and collectively account for 94% of the world population. In Dallas County there are approximately 220 different languages spoken by its residents. On Sunday, October 29, two languages were used to worship the Lord on the Arapaho Road Baptist Church campus.
For the first time in the history of this church, those in attendance worshiped the Lord in both English and Spanish during the morning worship service. There are over 750,000 Spanish-speakers in Dallas county; many of whom live around the neighborhoods of the church. Beginning Sunday, November 5 there will be not only worship in Spanish at 10:45 am – 12:00 noon in the Fellowship Hall, but also a Life Group for Spanish-speakers from 9:15 am – 10:30 am in the choir room.
Think about this: until Jesus returns, there will never be less than two languages being used at Arapaho Road Baptist Church on a Sunday morning to worship the Lord and proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We just have 218 more languages to go in order to have authentic worship expressions in the heart language of all Dallas County residents to go before we have our county covered! We are practicing now for what heaven will be like then. May the nations find their way to Arapaho Road and may all the people praise Him in their own language.
